Drum Workshop 101

$199.00 $99.00

This course drops on April 1, 2018! Sign up now to guarantee your spot.

This course is currently in beta mode. (See full description below.) By signing up, not only will you gain access to the course in April at a reduced rate, but you will also help me to improve my course. And I’ll be able to spend extra time with you as a result.

This course will include between 8-10 video lessons. In order to make this worthwhile, you will be required to practice every day during the course of these lessons. (There’s no other way to improve than by practice!)

It’s all online

You will take this course in the comfort of your own home, on the comfort of your own drum stool. I won’t be with you physically, but I’ll be with you virtually. You will watch the videos, pausing them when necessary, and practicing on your own drum set. I will hold live Facebook discussions to give you an opportunity for questions, and I will always be available to personally answer your questions at the drop of an email.

Have you ever wanted to play the drums? Start today with the best course available for beginners  drummers. I’m going to teach you how to play the drums, how to practice, how to properly hold your sticks, how to properly hit the drums, and probably most importantly — how to keep time.

If you’ve never read music, no problem. We are going to work together and I promise — you’re going to come out on the other side ready to play with other musicians. It’s going to be awesome, but it’s going to take practice and I’ll be right there with you, cheering you on. I’ll be with you every step of the way, and you are going to finish this course with a confidence behind the drums that you never thought you had.

We will start day 1 by getting comfortable at your drum set. Everything needs to be within reach. You shouldn’t have to reach too far to hit that cymbal or those toms. We are going to get your metronome out and start playing right away. And you’re going to finish day 1 by playing a good, solid, steady beat.

Course timeline

The target start date for this course is April 1, 2018. You can work through it at your own pace, but if you do one lesson per week you should be able to complete it before the summer. But as long as you’re enrolled in the course, I’ll be available to help you and answer any questions, every step of the way.

A bit about me

I started playing the drums in grade 6. My dad saw something in me and somehow managed to borrow a drum set from a friend of his for a month. I fell in love with the drums and immediately started playing in my parent’s garage band. (Yes, a literal garage band.) It was a folk/country band called “Cross Country”. (I actually think they still exist in some form or fashion in central Alberta today.)

Very soon after playing on that borrowed kit, my dad picked up a good quality kit for me from Long & McQuade in Edmonton. And believe it or not, this is the same kit I use today, although it looks nothing like it did 30 years ago. I’ve re-finished the toms and kick; I now use an Omar Hakim snare; I use Paiste cymbals; and the hardware has all been updated.

I’ve spent time on the road with different bands, I’ve spent time in different recording studios across Canada and the US, and I now own my own recording studio just outside of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. And not to mention, I’ve spent years teaching drums one on one.
